The AGM commenced with the reading of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s Land Acknowledgement by Mr. Danial.
Mr. Danial reviewed the schedule of events for the day, which included a brief overview of the afternoon education session. Having covered housekeeping items, Mr. Danial introduced himself, and then asked the Board of Directors – Rebecca Law (president-elect), Jennifer Clifford (Treasurer), Paulette Perras (Member-at-Large), Marika Bishop (Secretary), Lisa Avann (PPNO administrator) – to do the same. Mr. Danial also acknowledged outgoing members – Lindsay Martinek, and George Fieber – who were instrumental to PPNO over the past several years, especially during the COVID pandemic.
Mr. Danial proceeded with the call for approval of the 2024 Annual General Meeting Agenda, which was approved by Jennifer Clifford (Board Member) and second by Erin O’Connell (general member).
Mr. Danial then requested approval of the 2023 AGM Meeting Minutes, with one redaction that the PPNO year-end is June 30 not December 31, which was approved by the members in attendance via show of hands, on motion by Marika Bishop and seconded by Paulette Perras.
Ms. Clifford presented the Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Ms. Clifford reviewed the Balance Sheet and Income Statement at a high level and indicated that PPNO had modest increase from 2023 to 2024 year-end. On motion by Ms. Clifford, and seconded by Mr. Danial the draft Financial Statements as of June 30 2024 were approved.
Following the 2024 Financial Report, on motion by Ms. Clifford, and seconded by Ms. Perras, Rade and Barrington was confirmed as PPNO’s Accountant of record for 2025. Mr. Danial presented the President’s Report, wherein he noted PPNO parted ways with its management company, First Stage Enterprise Limited (FSEL), after a 5-year partnership. He acknowledged the wonderful work of FSEL, and wished the organization’s president all the best in retirement. Mr. Danial confirmed the PPNO’s new partnership with Lisa Avann, an independent contractor, who was the successful candidate emerging from a lengthy interview process.
Mr. Danial again mentioned the departure of two board members – Ms. Martinek, and Mr. Fieber – and announced departure as President: stepping into the role of Past-President. Rebecca Law, current President-Elect, will assume the role of President for the next three years.
Ms. Law provided brief remarks, acknowledged the current Board of Directors, and sought expressions of interest for the vacant seats on the Board.
Ms. Law provided an overview of the PPNO’s By-Laws, and the noted that the Board of Directors could have a total of seven (7) members – currently there are 4 returning members, and 3 vacancies
To fill these vacancies, prior to the AGM, the PPNO issued a call for Executive Board members. As at the application deadline, two applications were received –Rishita Peterson, Manager of Interprofessional Practice Chief of Nursing at Baycrest Hospital, and Darlene Venditti, Interim Director of Interprofessional Practice Ethics and Education at Niagara Health Hospital.
Ms. Venditti did not attend the AGM, and her application was therefore not considered.
Ms. Peterson was provided standing to introduce herself, and speak briefly to her interest in the PPNO. Ms. Peterson was acclaimed to the PPNO Board of Directors.
Ms. Law provided an updated on the PPNO’s general membership – currently there are 82 member organizations; and 315 affiliates – this is a slight increase in membership, attributed to the PPNO shift in scope to include affiliates beyond acute care hospitals.
Ms. Law, who again expressed gratitude to the membership for their dedication and contributions to the health sector, provided closing remarks.
There being no other business, the Annual General Meeting was adjourned at 12:00 hrs.
